The Road Agent and his crew are responsible for the

maintenance of Alstead's roads and other town properties.

The Alstead Highway Department provides essential

services to the residents of Alstead in a prompt,

courteous, safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

The Town has 64.87 miles of paved and dirt roads. Maintenance responsibilities include the repair and upkeep of the Town roads and streets, street signs, all surface and subsurface drainage systems, repairing or replacing culverts, clearing ditches. Posting of load limits and road closings, winter maintenance (snow removal, salting and sanding) to provide for safe vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The Town also has about 16.92 miles of road that are not maintained, called Class VI Roads.

And the Town does not maintain State roadways:

NH Route 123 - River St, Mechanic St, Forest Road

NH Route 12a - Alstead Center Road, High Street

NH Route 123a - Acworth Road
